FOR MARTIN BUBER

FOR MARTIN BUBER
Friends spend themselves for others,
Help each other more to be
When I becomes we.
Marriage is more than a license,
Is greater than a me,
When I becomes we.
Cities become more than faces
In a selfish human sea,
If I becomes we.

MARTIN BUBER
This page is a tribute to the memory and work of Gerald Rich,
who was not only a good poet, but also a good man. For many
years Gerry was an outstanding and dedicated English teacher
at both the high school and college levels, who gave much extra
effort to stimulate, encourage and empower his students to live
their lives at a higher level. It was a privilege to know him and
to work with him. This poem is not only an extension of Martin
Buber’s thought, but of Gerry’s thought and life as well.
